Overview
Just one queer person's reading challenge to expand my own queer romance books! Join along if you'd like.
Some notes:
Some notes:
- Find romances that show accurate representation for the prompts, and try to focus on own voices recommendations when possible.
- Remember that every person's experience is different, and that concept is different than problematic, generalizing, and/or stereotypical assumptions incorporated into books.
- Find authors who are part of the community, or make it their purpose to show sensitivity and respect to those communities. We want accurate and respectful representation, not tokenism.
- Check reviews, if there is criticism on representation, listen to own voices reviewers!
- Trans = any trans man, trans woman, or nonbinary person.
- Do not assume or guess an author's sexuality or gender - look them up! If they share it, perfect, if they don't, they have the right to their privacy and a different book may be needed to meet the prompt requirements.
- Queer = anyone who is not heterosexual and/or is not cisgender (LGBTQIA+). Queer romances feature at least one lead that is queer. (A queer person in a heterosexual relationship does not remove or lessen their queerness.)
