Overview
Welcome to the 2025 Speculative Bingo Challenge! This challenge has a list of 25 prompts which make up a bingo board. The goal is to complete all 25 prompts by the end of 2025. The challenge opens October 1st, 2024.
The Wikipedia definition of Speculative Fiction is: “an umbrella genre of fiction that encompasses all the sub genres that depart from realism, or strictly imitating everyday reality, instead presenting fantastical, supernatural, futuristic, or other imaginative realms.”
As long as your book has speculative elements - elements that would be impossible in the real world as we know it (ex. Magic, aliens, monsters, ghosts, alternate history, the supernatural, impossibly advanced technology, etc.) - it can count toward this challenge!
Some common speculative genres include: fantasy, science fiction, horror, dystopian/utopian, some historical fiction.
You can count any type of written work for these prompts, there is no length requirement. Short stories or novellas can be used.
Each prompt has two difficulties - easy and hard, where the hard prompt adds an extra layer of challenge.
Additionally, there are three challenge levels, which include optional restrictions to encourage you to read a wider variety of books!
Challenge Level 1: Each book can only be used for one prompt.
Challenge Level 2: Each author can only be used once - you cannot use multiple books by the same author across multiple prompts.
Challenge Level 3: No rereads allowed.
This challenge is just for fun - feel free to mix and match difficulty levels, challenge levels, and even bend the rules if you want!
