The Flight of the Falcon by Daphne du Maurier

5.0

I thought this book started off poorly; it felt silly and lightweight. Once it got going it was exceptional though. It’s a book about social division, the power of misinformation and the conditions that create Fascism. It’s a book about the allure of the dictator and the romantic, destructive, creative, appeal of Nietzsche’s superman. As is always the case with Du Maurier, the plot and the storytelling is wonderful. What makes it different to some of her other books though is that the narrative underpins truly big, dangerous, frightening ideas. Overall, I loved this book.
