The Awakening by Kate Chopin

4.0

So begins the series of books I am required to read for classes this semester.

The Awakening by Kate Chopin is an American classic set in Louisiana in the 1890s following a woman who is unhappy in her marriage and gradually comes to realize that the constraints of the society she lives in are kinda shitty. This book is great for classroom discussion; it is short, well-written, has lots of commentary about the role of wives/women, and it has a mildly disappointing ending. In short, I have many thoughts, but I’ll save them for class haha!
