Darling Days by iO Tillett Wright

5.0

I have just finished a masters class on the Great American Novel, where we read works such as Moby Dick, Underworld, and Beloved. I dearly wish I’d found this book before the class, and not after - because Darling Days is, in my eyes, a testimony to modern American living and growing up queer and poor. I’d seriously consider it a contender amongst these other works as a Great American Novel. And holy shit, the language is so gooooood! Easily one of my new favourites. The audiobook was a bit over ten hours, and yet I devoured it in a day.
