Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen

5.0

girl, interrupted is possibly one of my all time favorite films but i heard that the book was very different from it.

the film, for obvious reasons, was adapted to fit a narrative story - like a hollywood version of the susanna kaysen's life. this isn't a bad thing but if you're looking for that in kaysen's memoir, you will leave disappointed.

instead you'll get brief but poignant snippets into kaysen's life before and after her time at mclean hospital. i'm impressed with her ability to make her point without meandering. she is incredibly concise and an all around incredible writer.

i honestly can't tell you whether i prefer the book to the movie. i love them both equally, in different ways as they are very different works.
