The Push is the most effective form of birth control since the invention of The Pill.

SYNOPSIS: A woman thinks her baby just might be the worst person in the world.

The Push is really good, and I feel like Ashley Audrain deserves a lot of praise for crafting a book that not only has some pretty deep thoughts and emotions, but also works on the entertainment level of an actually-good Lifetime Original Movie.

There are definitely some totally outrageous moments that will have you reaching for the popcorn, but those moments are often tempered with moments of reflection that help ground what is a pretty wildstory.

This book reminded me a lot of Verity in terms of subject matter and tone, but, well, it’s actually good.

I feel like for folks who are new parents, your enjoyment of this book can go either way as there are lots of trigger warnings associated with your worst parenting fears. I know for some readers, this book was an absolute no and they DNF’d. For other readers, they said this book made them feel seen.

So, definitely approach it with caution, but I will say I liked it because it’s a thought-provoking thriller and a fast read. There’s a lot of commentary on mothering and nature vs. nurture, and this would be the greatest Lifetime movie if Lifetime had the balls to adapt it.
