King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

5.0

The way I was not at all ready for what this book had in store. Political wars, ancient magic, betrayals, and so many more. I was hooked and honestly, I couldn’t put it down.

It felt so good to return to the world of Ravka and Grisha and to see characters I’ve loved and missed and to get to know some of them even more. I loved the new main characters and their POVs. I can’t simple put to words how much better this was than Shadow and Bone. Even though I liked that book, King of Scars was a whole other level.

You get more familiar with the small science of Grisha but I also really appreciated how much more into the political side of the war we were introduced to and how much it affected Ravka — that the side effects of war didn’t just simply vanish after Alina destroyed the Fold but got even more complicated.

And then there was Nina’s side of the story which dealt with both her grief and how lost she felt after returning from Ketterdam. How she still felt like a soldier but no longer had the morale of one. Adrik and Leoni were a great addiction to her team and when you figure out all the small little details Leigh Bardugo has left here and there in the pages, you can’t help but feel amazed at how all of it is connected.

This book was nothing I could dream about but everything I ever hoped it would be. Probably one of my favourites in the Grishaverse and I can’t recommend it enough!
