Abomination by Robert Swindells

Reading this book as a child, I related very heavily to Martha. Growing up in a dysfunctional family, you're constantly told to keep secrets and "act normal" in public. You feel a divide between you and other children and when they inevitably bully you - because you're different and different is WRONG - you're hurt, because all you wanted was to be accepted somewhere. I was cheering for Martha to get out of that situation and find a happy life for herself. This book doesn't pull any punches and has several surprises in store.
