Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie

5.0

Where should I begin? Before They Are Hanged ended up being everything I had wished for after finishing the ride that was The Blade Itself. I am in awe of the way certain characters that are utterly unlikeable in the first instalment are developed in the second one. Jezal Luthar for instance becomes one of my favourites, after the hardships he endures, the lessons he learn and realizations he makes. But also Glokta shows more sides of himself during his truthseeking endeavors.

I still get the feeling though that Before They Are Hanged is just a preparation for the utter ride that The Last Argument of Kings will be. And for that I am more than stoked. This book made everything we had a little better. The battles were more strategic and large form. The characters had more hardships to go through. And most of all, did the consequences feel even more real. I am more than excited of what's to come.
