An Evening Out by Garth Greenwell

3.0

Listened to the audiobook of this short story which took less than 45 minutes.

Story-wise, not much happened; it was a teacher recalling his farewell party with students and his inner monologue during a, I dare say, regular Friday night at bars I frequent. But god was it written well. He makes mundane and sometimes vulgar scenes sound dreamy, wistful, and melancholic.

I was on the fence about reading his novels but this short piece has convinced me to go ahead and give them a shot.
