I do not think I will fully recover from this book.

We never want to end the relationship with our families. Often times, it is the last resort for saving us. It is hard for us to choose ourselves when we are raised in cultures that value the group over the individual.

This book devastated me. Etaf Rum’s words touched my soul and are cemented in my brain.  I hope she is okay.

5 stars.

Check the freaking TW for those with estrangement, depression, abuse, and generational trauma.
