Texas Two Step by Cynthia D'Alba

I can't remember a time I detested a heroine so much I rated the book purely on that. She went from being a somewhat sympathetic figure to utter....urgh, I haven't the words. She completely spoilt the reading experience for me. Yes the hero was a douche in the past, nothing new there, but
Spoilerthe selfishness in keeping her son a secret from his father was beyond excusable. Hurt and timing may have initially worked against her but to blackmail the H's parents to keep it from him and even when finally she meets him again, she doesn't tell him. She seemed to kid herself that it was all in her child's interest, but really it comes across as cowardice and self interest all the way. Icing on the cake was her using her ex as a get out clause, poor guy. Again it was all about her, all the while she 'loves' him. With love like that the H was better off with a hole in the head. When the H makes a grand gesture to force an HEA, there's no acknowledgment of her actions.

Misunderstandings are all well and good but an attempt to clear things up need to be made and to condemn without trial, unforgivable. I know this is stock in trade for romance novel authors but this was outside of enough. The H needed to find some other woman who'd give two hoots for him. Rant Review over.
