Very poignant book. A good easy read, that is very powerful, very real. Very sad and eye opening to the realities of war and how modern warfare has changed because of the actions of the First World War. As a British person we don’t learn about how it was for the Germans fighting in the wars and actually they are still only humans, being forced to fight a war they didn’t decided to join. And they had it far worse than the British and allied forces when it came to how they were treated by their own country. It makes it easier to understand soldiers point of view. They didn’t want to be there. They didn’t want to die. They had no choice.
