A short summary of this book would be that it follows a foster family for almost a decade in a small Massachusetts town in the 1950s and 60s. I could add that you experience life, heartbreak, trials and celebrations with this family. But this book is also so much more than that. It’s a powerful story about family and survival.
It’s been a while since I felt this emotionally drawn to a book. I don’t know how to describe it, but it was so heart-wrenching and beautiful. I loved the alternating narrators since each family member’s story and perspective was so unique and I truly wanted to know about each of them. These are characters I connected to immediately and I know will stick with me for a while.
