Re-reading this book as an adult makes me realize just how much this series transformed and shaped my understanding of what good story is. Especially in children and teen books. I think this was likely the series that made me fall in love with reading sci fi and I remember that I read Applegate’s other sci fi series too because I wanted MORE sci fi after reading these.
One of the things that feels so incredible about revisiting this series is that it really was as well written as I remember. It’s obviously written for 11-14 year olds, but in the best way possible. Concepts are explained clearly and vividly, without being condescending.
