Der Ekel by Jean-Paul Sartre
Did not finish book. Stopped at 39%.
I physically could not finish this one, and it is my first book that I marked as "did not finish" as I normally try to get through even tedious and challenging books once I've started them. "Nausea" describes the feeling I felt after trying to read 5 pages in a row. Endlessly tedious. Not even really thought-provoking, as our protagonist likes to describe the plainest activities, like picking up pieces of paper from the dirty ground, in great detail, pages on end. Maybe I will give this book another try someday, maybe I just missed some "ingenious message" in this attempt of Sartre to be philosophical. Not in the forseeable future, though.
