Derailed: Verb- Cause (a train or trolley car) to leave its tracks accidentally

The title for Derailed is beyond perfect. I have never been one to give recognition to a title for a book mainly because I feel a lot of times there isn’t much thought put into them, but this title just sits with the book so perfectly and I love it.

Moving onto what’s important.

It’s odd to think contemporary use to be my least favorite genre, and now it is all I ever feel like reading. At first when hearing about Derailed I figured it would be like a lot of the other New Adult contemporary romances that have been coming out lately…I figured I would enjoy it, but really didn’t expect much from it. I expected a predictable storyline, a sappy romance, and whiny characters.
Thankfully that was not the case with Derailed at all. Derailed was a great New Adult contemporary romance, that kept my attention from start to finish. Had an enjoyable cast of characters, and a memorable romance.

Molly our main character was great, I felt so sorry for her with everything she was going through. I felt all her emotions she had, and the way she reacted to things was very justifiable. Never once in this entire book did I find myself getting annoyed with her or rolling my eyes, which is always nice. I felt like she was a very real character right from the start.

Ben who is our main love interest I also very much liked, although I didn’t really buy the whole “he still has feelings for his high school sweet heart 5 years after she dumped him” thing, he was still an enjoyable character, I love how passionate he was about Molly and protective, without being creepy protective. He was also very persistent with getting Molly back once she got back in town, which I just , well thought was cute, even if I didn’t really believe his 5 years of missing her.

Overall I recommend Derailed to anyone who likes contemporary romances, new adult novels, or enjoys reading novels of someone overcoming the struggles of losing a loved one. Derailed was not a light cutesy read, it was emotional, and raw. I found myself laughing and smiling during this book, but I also found myself feeling sadness too while reading this. It had a mixture of all emotions and I loved it, and I hope you love it too!
