I love old hollywood, and I love scheming female leads, and this book combines them in a wonderful way. It was also unexpectedly emotionally impactful, and even the ambiguity of the ending, in terms of how monique feels about evelyn really fits in with the theme of appreciating the complexity of a life, especially of a star off-camera.
