Ms O'Connor managed to write about the mid-century American South in ways both hilarious and horrifying. Her prose is poetic, yet grounded. Her characters are sincerely and masterfully written. It is tragic that her cannon isn't as full as it could have been. Her premature death deprived the world of the work she would have produced if she hadn't fallen ill.
