Really interesting book! I think it’s meant to be satire, but I didn’t find it funny at all. Perhaps if I’d experienced it in 2018, without all the upsettingly similar circumstances to now. But even then, the commentary is far too real to be funny. This is not at all a point against the book! It was eerie and sad, especially as I approached the end, and has me thinking in many ways about my own life.

Only, this is just me, I was more interested in the new world and the new status quo (can it be called that if there’s only 9 people?) than the flashbacks. And the story ended much too soon! But getting the real world themes were important too :)
