A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher

2.0

This book lacks any real tension, and the climax feels like it's a completely different story to the rest of the book. The main character is fundamentally unserious, and it's kind of difficult to feel the horror elements of the story when she reacts to everything with scepticism, sarcasm, or a pop culture reference.

The mythology of the story was very interesting, and the more slice-of-life segments of the books establishing the characters was enjoyable. But on the whole, I don't think this delivered what it was aiming for, and I mainly felt disappointment as I finished it.
