Saving Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea

4.0

This might have been my favorite book in the series. Such a great set of coming of age stories. I must warn you that there are some themes in it that are more advanced for a younger reader *SPOILER* (sex, diabetes, racism, high risk pregnancies, traumatic brain injuries).

However, don't miss the opportunity to have a structured conversation with your kids about any of the themes that come up in the book. Also, ultimately, the kids do end up handling the situations well and the adults in the book are inspiring as role models. The characters are a little cliche, but ultimately, Rob Buyea weaves depth into them and you end up loving every one of them. I wish Rob would hurry up and write more books. My son and I finished this and we immediately went to see if he'd written anything else...no such luck. Taking recommendations for similar authors!
