The Kept Woman by Karin Slaughter

3.0

Listened to on the recommendation of a friend. And she told me it was the 8th in the series, but that she'd read it cold and enjoyed it and not felt out of touch, so I should go for it. I did and also felt fine, not out of touch (although perhaps a little simply because I had been told I was). As mystery/thrillers go, this one was looser and more dynamically structured than many of them. The giant flashback in the middle helped give the characters depth and throw multiple twists in the whodunnitgame. I was actually surprised at the red herring in plain sight when that finally got realized/pointed out.

I'll certainly read more in this series. I might even start at the beginning!
