I was starting to think I'd never have a 5 star read again until this beautifully dark novel entered my life. I just finished it this morning, and my gosh, what an ending 🙌
The story opens from the perspective of the "Bridegroom" who meets Indigo, a scary but alluring woman who soon becomes his wife. She's very mysterious but makes him promise never to look into her past. This becomes increasingly hard when Indigo has to return to the House of Dreams where she grew up. As soon as the Bridegroom enters the house, it whispers to him 👀
The writing in this story was immaculate, I ended up using a highlighter so much that it ran out, and I had to change colours halfway. Pages and pages of beautiful dreamlike writing. This is definitely one for lovers of The Starless Sea.
My favourite part was that throughout the narrative, we are constantly questioning the fantastical nature of their world. Are magic and curses real? Or something the main characters just created as a way to cope with their existences? It's all upto our interpretation. I love that.
I won't go on too long, but I would definitely recommend. It took me very much by surprise, and I'm very glad I had my reading buddy @frinsreads to message throughout 🥰
