Chaos Choreography by Seanan McGuire

5.0

This is the fifth book in the InCryptid series by [a:Seanan McGuire|2860219|Seanan McGuire|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1245623198p2/2860219.jpg] and the third focusing on Verity Price. In it, we return to Verity's beloved dancing. The author restrained herself from calling the TV show "Dancing With The Cryptozoologists" but when she has the host or judges talking, you feel as if you were watching DWTS (not that I would know).

I am not a dancer and do not watch TV shows that involved dancing (unless there are car chases and explosions (which quickly reduces the number of these types of shows to essentially zero)). However, the author did not dwell so deeply on the details and techniques of dancing that I became narcoleptic. She kept the story moving along. She continued to deepen the relationship between Verity and Dominic and introduced, Alice, Verity's dimension-hopping grandmother. Oh, and we got to visit another dragon's nest.

The novel quickly becomes more than just a televised dance competition and brings in a more powerful version of a previous "bad guy": "I have had it with these motherf**king snake on this motherf**king plane!!!!" (even though no planes were involved).

Because this is a Seanan McGuire book, you'll get lines such as "a chupacabra dressed as Elvis", "little Susie Safety", "Then I realized I could smell cookies", "I like helmets. They're like exoskeletons for your skull.", "Martinis made with spinal fluid", and "it was time to put my terrible, awful, no-good plan into effect" which you won't find anywhere else.

I was curious what eventually happened to Nemo, the plesiosaur, that the book opened with. I would've liked to have seen some reference to that thread near the end.

I'm looking forward to the sixth book.
