Really Good, Actually by Monica Heisey

3.0

I was really looking forward to reading this debut as the author writes for Schitt’s Creek, but unfortunately sets a high expectation and it wasn’t as funny or as sweet. The book takes the point of view of Maggie, getting divorced at 29 after under 2 years of marriage. I don’t more if the author is divorced herself but there were some moments in this that felt so accurate. The protagonist is self-absorbed and indulgent which can be quite irritating, but in time I saw this as a way of the author showing how difficult it can be to be around her, which other characters feel. At times this reminded me a bit of the tv show Girls, but with less celebration. This dragged a bit but I’m glad I finished it.

Some realistic bi representation always appreciated though!
