The World We Make by N.K. Jemisin

5.0

I want to start this by saying that I wasn't a huge fan of The City We Became. The premise was great, but it felt so unfinished and unsatisfying. But in anticipation of The World We Make, I reread it, and now that I've been able to read the pair, I couldn't be happier with the story. I do however think this should have just been one book though.

The World We Make finally showed us the world that was lurking beneath the pages of The City We Became, it solved the mysteries that should have at least been addressed in the first book, and it showed how creative and interesting Jemisin's world is.

It's hard to write a spoiler free review of the second book in a pair, so I'm going to wrap it up here, but in summation, if you liked the world and characters of The City We Became, but didn't like the plot, do yourself a favor and read The World We Make. It'll be worth it.
