A review by shelfexplanatory
Mary Jane by Jessica Anya Blau
Did not finish book.
DNFed at 50%. Do not fall for the comparison to DAISY JONES & THE SIX. This book is just about a repressed teenager with racist parents who hangs out with a liberal family and a rock star/movie star couple for a summer. In doing so, she learns how to "rebel" from her parents (i.e. lie to them, and wear short skirts and no bra in public. Scandalous!). The characters felt like stereotypical caricatures with no depth, including Mary Jane herself.
I flipped through the last half of the book to see if it got any better, but it doesn't. Nothing really happens.
Thanks to Custom House for sending me an advanced reader's copy of this book.
