Get in Trouble by Kelly Link
dark
mysterious
medium-paced
3.0
Short story collections can often be a mixed bag. Unfortunately, that's the case with Get in Trouble. The first story in this collection, The Summer People, is a perfectly crafted dark fairytale. I'm obsessed with it. The rest of the stories struggle to live up to its example, usually including some element of darkness and magic - but never executed quite as well. Link is most definitely a talented author and I enjoyed the other stories just fine. However, maybe I would have liked Get in Trouble a whole lot more if The Summer People had been the last story instead of the first.
Graphic: Misogyny and Blood
Moderate: Gore and Violence
Minor: Adult/minor relationship
