Unravel the Dusk by Elizabeth Lim

2.0

This book had potential, but to me it felt like it would've needed a lot more editing and work. There were pacing issues, the tone did not really convince and at some point there seemed to have been a switching of scenes but the rest of the plot had not quite been changed to accomodate it?
And the magic? Oh my god, the magic was so confusing. Like, Maia has two sources of magic and there is talk of one being corrupted by the other but also keeping the other one in check and they were supposed to interact in some way but it was. so not understandable. And then the battle whiplash.
It's a shame, because I really liked the first novel and i liked the very ending of the second novel (except for the part where it was all 'yay Edan is back! By the way, he was gone. We did not expect him to return just yet. No way to set THAT up, no') but the inbetween was just so confusing.
It was a quick read, but not enjoyable because it was so not *finished*.
