Meet Me Halfway 2: Love Me Dirty by Lilian T. James

Nate is a bartender with a relaxed attitude on sex and relationships. He’s up for anything, with anyone, and has no interest in monogamy - until he meets a woman he calls Lacey, who is having a rough night and wants to drink away her problems at his bar. After learning the reason for her recent break-up, he offers her one night as a distraction - but it will leave both of them reeling as they immediately feel this might be more than a one night stand.
I really enjoyed it. It’s a novella and it’s not meant to be more complicated than this but honestly, I just wanted more. I found the ending a little unsatisfying, but on the whole, for what it was it was very well done. It was very sexy, there was good emphasis on consent, and I enjoyed the dynamic between them. I also liked Nate, who readers may have encountered in Meet Me Halfway, the previous novel in this series (if you haven’t read it, I would recommend it, although it is very different in tone and content to this book.). I felt I got a good grasp of his personality and character even in such a short amount of pages. Lacey - or Marissa - was a little harder for me to get a hold on. She was cute and I had a lot of sympathy for her, but she felt a little bland.
That said - that really wasn’t the point of this book, and the author makes it clear from the get-go this isn’t the novella for you if you’re looking for a lot of character development. I can’t really hold it against the book that I didn’t get that for that reason, but still, I enjoyed it enough that I think I would have enjoyed an expanded version of this story. For what it is, though, it’s fun and hot and was really easy to read. I would recommend it if you’re looking for a quick, steamy romance with an instalust couple with a Dom/sub dynamic.
