3.5

A really easygoing and easy to get into read with low stakes and a fairly solid romance. The writing style could use some work with A LOT of fragmented sentences that force a certain pacing, but I enjoyed Jayce, Alexius, and their romance as well as the world around them. There were some word choices that don’t necessarily work since this is a fantasy world (why would the Grand Duke use a title like ‘monsieur’ when it’s a French word? Like, do the French exist in this world??), but I’ll probably try another book by Rubin in the future.
