The Return of the Indian by Lynne Reid Banks
2.0
My kids and I liked the first book quite a bit. The story was interesting enough that it made all of the pausing to discuss the racist content worthwhile. In fact, it gave me a lot of material to use in talking to them about prejudice, stereotypes, etc, and they still bring it up when we encounter those things in other books and movies. That said, I didn't like the plot of this second book as much as the first. It felt really violent and sad and I didn't find myself rooting for the characters like I did in the first book. So all of the editing I was doing as I read it out loud and all of the pausing to call out yet another stereotype felt more clunky and less worthwhile.
