Lightlark by Alex Aster

4.0

Lightlark was better than I expected. The world-building in this isn’t prominent, it mainly follows the YA structure of light and simple world-building which I think a lot of NA or Adult readers have a problem with, but I actually don’t. I love reading a fantasy book that takes zero-brainpower and that’s how this felt to me. The magic-system I have to applaud because it’s very fresh, at least from what books I’ve read. It’s so beautifully intricate and I had so much fun finding out about everyone’s powers through the trials and tribulations and there’s just so much incredible potential in this story. Although, the whole idea of the Centenial was…’less’ than I expected honestly; Lightlark has more of a treasure/scavenger hunt plot than competition so I felt the synopsis was misleading but I liked this storyline too soooo. In general, I thought the magic system wasn’t confusing at all but still super unique and intriguing as well! And the plot twists AHH, there was always an unexpected twist and my heart was POUNDING…by the end my heart was in pieces and I was crying over that betrayal
