This was a fun and easy read. Lots of action, and a simple plot to follow. I liked the characters although there wasn't much character development or character depth in this story. The book was well-paced and humorous enough. Beware that this book ends with a cliff hanger, which I find frustrating. Luckily the sequel had just been released. I would have liked to see more depth of emotion and for the backstories to be further developed. My fingers are crossed for the sequel. There is interest for me with the magic system introduced and I think it has potential. Also to note; this book was very light on romance, and I wouldn't classify this as 'romantasy'. Perhaps the sequel will go further in that direction.
