Pet Sematary by Stephen King

3.0

3 Stars

Unfortunately for me, I already knew what was going to happen in the end of this book. I watched the movie as a kid (bad idea, I know), and have always remembered the ending due to how climactic it is. That being said, knowing the biggest (yet shorted) part of the book may have impacted my star rating a bit (probably would have rounded to a 4 stars rather than 3).

I found myself a little bored for half of the book. It was building up towards the end, although when the end did happen, it felt a bit too sudden/quick. I would have loved more of it considering I waited 320 pages only to read about 30 pages of stomach turning anxiety over the final outcome.

I've seen people say how much they hate Church from how creepy he is but as an animal lover I felt SO bad for him. Maybe I'm just weird but he was the only character in this book I felt bad for by the end (other than Gage)...that may just go to show how weird I am tbh *nervous laughter*

The lesson of death in Pet Sematary is probably my favourite part. Despite being such a horrible, grief filled time that everyone has to experience at some point in their lives, it's also necessary part of life and Stephen King does a good job expressing that.

Would recommend reading the book before watching the movie or else it's just not the same.
