Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin
5.0
Honest to god (pun intended), this is the best book I have ever read.
Are there works of literature out there that are better written? Sure.
Should this book be a classic? Probably not.
Nonetheless it is my favorite book and therefore the best book. I can’t even begin to process how much this book touched my heart, but it did.
It does such a great job of creating a first-person perspective of what it’s like to be queer, AFAB, neurodivergent, and mentally ill.
The way the book is broken up into very independent, short passages of mind blowing thoughts might be hard to follow for some, but to me it was worth it. I took forever to read this book, I think because I could tell from the beginning that it was so good.
I’ve never laughed at something in a book before, and I’m an avid reader. For this book, I laughed OUT LOUD at least 15 times in the first 100 pages. I also cried at the end because it said the exact thing I needed to stop beating myself up so badly (like I’ve been doing so much lately).
There are some triggering things in this book: talking about animal death, suicidal ideation, depression, murder… but if it is safe for you to do so, I strongly recommend pushing through. It’s so worth it.
