Permanent Record by Edward Snowden

I don't have a bad thing to say about this book other than if you read it, you're probably on a list. Especially if you bought it with a credit card in your name.

I thought this was so interesting. I loved how we got to see everything that went down from Snowden's perspective. We get to see how he got comfortable with computers, starting working in IT, eventually moved up to sysadmin and ultimately working at the NSA and CIA. It's really interesting to read his thought process around leaking documents and why he felt it was necessary and how he did it and what he went through in Hong Kong and then in Russia, where he's still living 7 years later.

There is a chapter in the book that is from his wife's perspective. Some of her diary entries make up the second to the last chapter of the book, and I appreciate and admire that she obviously allowed parts of her diary to get published, essentially.

I really like the last chapter. The last chapter seems to come from a place of hope and it's kind f a call to action and a reality check that yes, things have gotten better, but there is still so much that we need to change.

Honestly, there's just nothing that I dislike about this book and I know I'm going to revisit it.
