I took away advice that boiled down to a couple of key points:
Listen to your people. Make it safe for them to speak as this allows them to use initiative. Do this by forgiving mistakes, not openly criticizing anyone, applauding good work, allowing risk.
Don't work with unfriendly people, as this will drive good people away.
