The Wake-Up Call by Beth O'Leary

4.0

Slow but charming story

I have read and loved all of Beth O’Leary’s previous books. For some reason this book just didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

Izzy and Lucas work the front desk together at a Hotel, however the hotel is financially struggling and may not survive beyond the festive period. Both Izzy and Lucas hate each other, so when tasked with effectively trying to save the hotel they have to try and work together and see beyond their differences.

It’s a typical enemies to lovers style book which this author normally manages so well, however in this case the story (especially the first half) felt slow and because of this I found it hard to fully engage with it at times. That said the development of Lucas in particular was well written and there was a good level of humour (especially involving some of the side characters).

It’s a sweet enough story, but falls short of other Beth O’Leary books.
