Become You Vol. 1 by Ichigo Takano

4.0

I bought this book on a whim when me and my boyfriend was shopping for anniversary gifts for each other. I own other mangas by this author but I have yet to read them so I thought to buy it and to try out the start of a new series by him. Especially because I have heard such high praise about those books.

I really liked this book and the message that it was portraying about chasing your dreams. I wasn't moved by the message, but I think if I was reading it when I was younger or when I was in an unpredictable time in my life then those words would mean a lot more to me. It's reassuring to see characters go through the same thoughts as you do. I did think that as a result of the book focusing more of the development on Ashie in achieving his dream that the pacing of the book was slow, and that nothing really happened in terms of the plot. I would describe it more of a slice of life manga instead. I did still read the book in one sitting. I will keep the book and keep an eye out for when the next book will be published because I do want to see what happens next. I did really like the portrayal of friendship in this book as well. In addition, this volume had no romance in it so if you were a fan of mangas but not of romance then this could be the manga for you.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I will keep an eye out for the next book in the series and I will probably read the other books by this author sooner rather then later because I did like this book and it has made me more curious about the authors other works.
