Number the Stars by Lois Lowry
5.0
I remember reading this when I was around 12 years old (just two years older than Annemarie in the book), and I think it was the first time I became interested in historical fiction. This was such a moving story about love, courage, and friendship, and it was based on real events during World War II. I remember being so nervous when Annemarie was running so fast through the forest at night so she could be on time before the boat leaves, and oh my god, I felt as if I was there through it all. I just love love LOVE this book, and I think I've read it about three times already. Every single time I read it again, I still get the same feeling I had when I stumbled upon it as a child.
