The Fall of Wisconsin: The Conservative Conquest of a Progressive Bastion and the Future of American Politics by Dan Kaufman

5.0

I grew up as a rural Wisconsin conservative, and this book was fantastic.

For Wisconsin natives, many of the events and locations covered in this book will ring a bell. Nevertheless, this book adds something to them - a glimpse of the humanity behind the events.

This story of Wisconsin's political heritage meanders like its backroads, but it never loses sight of the encompassing dilemma.

The author does justice to the frustrations of real people; the ebb and flow between environment and entrepreneur, between wealth and man, between division and solidarity, and between worker and company.

This is a quick read, and if you're new to Wisconsin or becoming civically minded for the first time, this book will give you a glimpse into what it means to be a Badger, and show you what it is that we fight for.
