This book is a lot. I mean that in multiple ways, it’s just a lot. We learn so much about so many things. Yes, I’m being vague. I just feel the further we get into this series, the less I can say without being somewhat spoiler-ish.

Something I absolutely adore about this story is that Josephine knows absolutely nothing about Loreans while Rune thinks she’s been enveloped in the Lorean culture since birth. Josephine made me laugh every time she was so obviously out of her element with Rune’s questions, but would try to twist things so he would end up giving her the information so she could learn more. The girl is a genius. A genius with a huge chip on her shoulder. Which is really quite understandable with all she’s been through. Really, Jo’s story will tug at your heartstrings.

Rune is such a tough warrior; with a vulnerability that few look beyond his hard exterior to see. Josephine cannot help but feel drawn to Rune, even while feeling as though he’s the enemy. If it wasn’t for her own insecurities, she would see that soft spot Rune has much sooner.

There are a bunch of characters introduced in this story. Rune is part of the Morior, who it seems will have a huge part to play in the Ascension. There are so many directions the author can go with these characters and I’m really excited to see what each personality will bring to the table. At this point, it’s hard to know who’s “good” and who’s “bad”, if there even is such a thing when it comes to the factions in this particular book. If they all had some giant council and talked, could the band together? Or are Nix and the rest of her group actually wrong in their thinking?

A lot of heat, a lot of love, a lot of misunderstanding. A lot of answers and a lot more questions. I love it all.
