An enjoyable procedural. These books aren't as suspenseful as other books: the reveal of the culprit never feels particularly surprising. But it is satisfying. Gently often makes a point of saying that he is not making opinions or theories, he is simply following leads to their natural conclusion. When the murderer is revealed, it makes sense.
