Fire Falling by Elise Kova

3.0

This is starting to look like an entirely mediocre series. No well developed side characters, lacklustre romance between leads and even as book two ends, very little clarity on the magic system.

Also, what is it with every plot point being swept away for the sake of the romance? Vhalla is heading to the war front and her foremost concern is whether the prince likes her or not. Any conversation Vhalla has with her friends and acquaintances would sorely fail the Bechdel test. Its starting to grate on my nerves.

Vhalla should have grown into her power by now. Her power is critical to the war and she lets herself be swept up in political plays like she doesn't have a valuable bargaining chip in her hand.
