The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury
5.0
For this is the first rule of the jinn: that no jinni may love a human. For always must our allegiance be to Nardukha, and none else.
I have read a thousand and one stories but I haven't read a story such as this. What else can I say?
This is such a breathtaking retelling of the Genie in the Lamp. It focused more on the genie, or in this story's case, the jinn, instead of Aladdin.
Zhara, the jinn, was forced to make difficult decisions throughout this story but in the end she found a way to make things right. To correct her past mistakes which had burdened her for so many years. And by her side was Aladdin, a thief that had became her master.
But that's not the only story behind this book. This book had many twists and turns which left me unwittingly craving for more. You have to read this book to find it out.
