That Inevitable Victorian Thing by E.K. Johnston
fast-paced
- Strong character development? No
- Loveable characters? No
- Diverse cast of characters? Yes
- Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

I just accidentally refreshed and lost my entire like 1k word review. Eventually I will go back and rewrite it but TL;DR: so “woke” it loops back to being bigoted (super white, pro-imperialist, the Computer is based on eugenics), the characters are flat and not good people which is never really addressed lol ( mostly referring to Helena cheating on August ), the book jacket implies a lot of political maneuvering of which there is none and also implies the ending will be a triad that ~breaks boundaries~ in the empire when instead we get a poorly proposed V based on cheating (!!!!!!) and a tacked-on-at-the-last-minute beard marriage for August and Margaret. So romantic 🙄 .

Moderate: Ableism
Entire match-making scheme is based on eugenics. Weirdly fetishizes characters being mixed race (especially characters being of Hong Konger descent??? Super weird).
