Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld

While I still don't like that seems like a middle scene in a book ending that this book shares with the previous book I am enjoying following the journey of Alek & Deryn as they face the hazards of their own version of WWI.

In this installment the characters find themselves in Istanbul, what was meant to be an escape and a peacekeeping mission turns into helping a revolution to overthrow the German influenced Sultan.

Both Alek and Deryn are really growing as characters with each new struggle they face, though despite their friendship Deryn doesn't seem to completely trust Alek, not with all her secrets. It's almost as if Alek is intentionally blind to Deryn's deception. So many others have figured out her secrets, it's strange the the person she spends the most time with hasn't yet.

I'm not really sure what to say about this one, I'm enjoying the story but still feel as if it's only a piece of a larger book rather than one book that is part of a series.

I would definitely recommend the book, but I also recommend having all the books to read together before beginning any of them.
